Awake, for morning in the bowl of night has flung the stone that puts
the stars to flight

And, lo, the hunter of the east has caught the sultan’s turret in a noose of light.

Spanish life is not always likeable but it is compellingly loveable – Christopher Howse: ‘A Pilgrim in Spain’.

Cosas de España/Galiza

A Semana Santa controversy.

More on those entire villages for sale. For those with skills I lack.

There’s a CaminoEl Taverneiro – which enters Galicia at Salvaterra on the river Miño and continues up to Santiago de Santiago without turning towards the coast and passing through Pv city. If you’re thinking of doing a Camino, I recommend it as a superior, less-crowded alternative.

Some of the rubbish on display in today’s flea market in Pv city:-

This is the unappealing weekly scene of folk rummaging through the leftovers thrown into the bins for something of value to them.

Portugal

According to a Portuguese lady, these are the 3 most important aspects of Portuguese etiquette:- 1. kissing on both cheeks, 2. taking a long time to say goodbye, and 3. talking softly. Guess which one isn’t remotely shared by their neighbours . . .

The UK

The place which claims to be the start of the Camino Inglés.

The Middle East War

Trump can’t hide the ugly truth about Operation Epic Fiasco.

Trump is clearly insane but let’s hope he doesn’t implement his threat to ‘bomb the Iranians back to the Stone Age, where they belong’.

Meanwhile, the US is carrying out what it calls ‘strategic repositioning’ its military personnel from its bases in the Middle East – the preferred obfuscatory term for ‘retreating’. Because Iran has destroyed all the early warning systems that protected them from missiles.

If you thought the MAGA crowd were mad . . . Groypers are said to be of growing importance in the Republican sphere. They are: A far-right, white nationalist online movement associated with Nick Fuentes, often described as an attempt to rebrand parts of the alt-right. They emerged around 2019 and took their name from a meme version of Pepe the Frog called “Groyper,” which had racist-coded associations in far-right culture. They present themselves as “America First” nationalists and often frame their politics in terms of Christian traditionalism. They oppose immigration, feminism, LGBTQ rights, globalism, and what they see as mainstream conservatism’s weakness on culture-war issues. They have been linked to racist, antisemitic, homophobic, and Islamophobic rhetoric. The movement became known for trying to push its views into mainstream conservative spaces, including confrontational “Q&A trolling” at political events.

You Have to Laugh

SNL weekend update.

Finally . . .

The other negative thing that happens during holidays is that I lose wifi to my modem. This morning it had been down more than 12 hours – for the second, if not third – time during the festivities of this Semana Santa week. Hard to believe this is coincidence. Maybe some of the strangely be-clothed penitents in the processions were Móvistar technicians on leave. I checked on Mòvistar wifi problems; Pv city was included, along with all of Madrid. Impressive!

Finally . . . Finally . . .
