Awake, for morning in the bowl of night has flung the stone that puts
the stars to flight
And, lo, the hunter of the east has caught the sultan’s turret in a noose of light

Spanish life is not always likeable but it is compellingly loveable – Christopher Howse: ‘A Pilgrim in Spain’.
Cosas de España/Galiza
A friend used to argue that matadors were not that brave as they knew how to avoid injury. I thought of him when reading that Ricardo Ortiz had been fatally gored this week in Málaga.
Easter delicacies in Spain.
The oposiciones are civil service exams for specific public posts. They demand intelligence and a lot of hard advance study. But, as they virtually guarantee a good career for life, they are very well patronised. This is an account of one aspirant who says he studied 8 hours a day for 3 years. . .
Pv city gets more like Santiago de Compela- or even Cordoba – every year. Guided tours can number 40 souls and there are even tours in English now.

The United States of Trump USA
As many readers will have worked out, these are the sites I visit daily for news of Trump and of the Middle East War. Now that warmer weather is here, I’ve decided to save myself time and effort and to leave it to readers to decide if they want to see the latest podcasts. Some have a parallel video on YouTube:-
- The Daily Beast – On Podbean and other platforms [Plus video]
- Inside Trump’s Head – On Podbean and other platforms [Plus video]
- The Daily Blast with Sargent – On Podbean and other platforms
- The Rest is Politics US – On Podbean and other platforms [Plus video]
- The DSR Network: https://thedsrnetwork.com Also on Podbean.
I will continue to provide headlines of and links to articles of possible interest. For example:-
- Here’s a surprise . . . Vegas hotel meets aerospace bling’: Trump’s presidential library plan is a gaudy, self-glorifying monstrosity
- Trump continues to escalate the war, with possible war crimes.
- As Team Trump wages unceasing war on Iran, evangelical nationalists are destroying any moral world order we once had.
Can you believe Karoline Leavitt’s latest outrageous claim? She’s said that Trump is always the most well-read person in the room. Which surely definitively answers the question of whether she knows she is lying.

The latest fashions, I believe.

Baggy is‘ ’ín’. Regardless of how ugly or unflattering it is.
Finally . . .
It’s odd that readership of my posts falls on holiday and in holiday weeks such as this one. Do some folk only read them at the office, I wonder.
Finally . . . Finally . . .
The best front hedge in my street.

Mine. of course.
My thanks to those readers who take the trouble to Like my posts.
The Usual Links . . .
You can get my posts by email as soon as they’re published. With the added bonus that they’ll contain the typos I’ll discover later. I believe there’s a box for this at the bottom of each post. If you do this but don’t read the posts, I will delete your subscription. So perhaps don’t bother if you have other reasons for subscribing . . .
I can also be read on Facebook.
For new readers: If you’ve landed here looking for info on Galicia or Pontevedra, try here. If you’re passing through Pontevedra on the Camino, you’ll find a guide to the city there.
If you´re thinking of moving to Spain, this link should be useful to you.
