Spanish life is not always likeable but it is compellingly loveable

Cosas de España/Galiza

If I liked mushrooms, it might be worth visiting this white village which is actually blue.

Being enchufado – plugged in – can be very useful in Spain, where the personal factor usually counts for a lot. Here’s some advice on how to achieve this status. It’s all sound but some of it might be hard to do in practice. Numbers 8 and 9 are essential.

Confused by seeing cars from at least 3 different police forces attending an incident? This might help you understand why.

Two or three years ago, I commented on the opening of a specialist hipster barber shop in Plaza de Dos de Mayo in Malasaña in Madrid. I see now that it is lo que el viento se llevó.

Putin’s attempt to label the Ukraine government as Nazis is beyond irony. If there’s any fascist here, it’s the Russian dictator.

The Kremlin has accused the West of behaving like bandits and claimed it’s impossible to isolate a country as big as Russia. Time will tell. Perhaps sense will prevail before that point has been reached. Or before nuclear war has made the question academic.

The rise of crypto and Bitcoin risks blowing a hole in Russian sanctions. Cryptocurrencies will help raise funds for those defending Ukraine, but also help oligarchs evade western sanctions.

The Way of the World/Quotes of the Day

The war has woken the West to its own decay. Self-obsession has blinded us to the poison seeping into our democracies. Rationale here, if the link works.

The past 10 days have been the most important in decades. We have seen an authoritarian state turn into a totalitarian one in front of our eyes. . . . The West must accept that Putin’s invasion has ushered in a new world order. The war has set off a chain of events that could alter the balance of power for good. This is a possible link to the rationale for these statements.

  1. Desinformatsiya. Disinformation was defined in Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1952) as “false information with the intention to deceive public opinion”. Operation INFEKTION was a Soviet disinformation campaign to influence opinion that the U.S. invented AIDS. https://www.historyofinformation.com/detail.php?id=5069

Yet again, it’s essential to read Dr. North & other sites that value truth & integrity above the external advantages circulation & money:

“And very shortly, things seem set to get worse for everybody. The weather forecast has it that temperatures are to drop to -20 degrees in eastern Ukraine, with deep snowfalls. We were set for a new cold war, but I don’t think this was quite what was expected”.

“Meanwhile, the brutal invasion of Ukraine by Mr Putin and his cronies is bringing about a growing realization, among those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, that the global-warming narrative so sedulously peddled by the climate-change industrial complex originated in the Desinformatsiya directorate of the KGB. There, the kind editors have published a 5000-word piece by me giving some history that readers of WUWT will find fascinating. It is a tale much of which, for security reasons, has not been told until now”.
