Beyond parody . . . The background music to Trump’s boasts on Truth Social was an anti-war anthem .
The NYT reports that Venezuela’s interim leader has already defied Trump. One wonders how long she’s got, especially since Trump has already lied about her being under his thumb: She will act as a partner in letting the US run the country. She’s willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again. As if.
The interim leader humiliates Trump, it’s claimed here. On borrowed time, then.
Quotes of the Day,
So far:-
- What Putin-esque language!
- Trump, as he often does, said the quiet part out loud – that this is all about oil.
- If it were about drugs, we’d bomb Mexico, Colombia, or China.
- The press conference was stunning in admitting that this is all about oil.
- If you think invading Venezuela is about stopping drugs coming into the USA, I have a made-in-China Trump bible to sell you.
- This was both irresponsible and stupid.
- [Generally speaking] The only thing worse than stupidity is the willingness to display it.
Questions arising
- Do we really believe Maduro will be replaced by a modern-day George Washington?
- Is Greenland next? Colombia? Panama? Canada??
- Will Congress assert itself?
- When will his base realise that Trump is only interested in power and money for himself and his cronies? And that he’s not remotely interested in democracy in Venezuela?
Some immediate satire. Just the first one.
More anon, I fear.
