Awake, for morning in the bowl of night has flung the stone that puts
the stars to flight.
And, lo, the hunter of the east has caught the sultan’s turret in a noose of light!

Spanish life is not always likeable but it is compellingly loveable – Christopher Howse: ‘A Pilgrim in Spain’
Cosas de España
- Spain’s macro economic growth is now even more impressive, compared with most other EU members. And here’s one explanation.
- The self-exiled ex-king is now in even hotter water.
- Spanish residency is now easier than ever, for some at least.
- But some places in Spain should be avoided . . .
- The UK might have urban foxes but Spain increasingly has urban porcos bravos.
- Beware this new parking scam.
Cousas de Galicia
Well, there goes the Vigo neighbourhood . . . I have to say that the citizens of La Coruña. Santiago de Compostela and Pontevedra city – and possibly those of Lugo – would laugh at the suggestion that the upstart commercial city of Vigo has a decent old quarter. And another important point . . . While the Santa María church is often referred to as a cathedral, it’s officially designated a co-cathedral because it shares the cathedral seat of the Diocese of Tui-Vigo with the Tui Cathedral.
The UK
France
The USA
- The Mexican president has responded to Trump’s threats in an open letter to him, warning that her government could retaliate with tariffs of its own. She’ ‘s called for negotiations to avoid a full-blown trade war. One wonders if he will even read the letter, never mind understand its implications.
- Meanwhile, in a rant on TV, son Eric has demonstrated even less knowledge of how tariffs work than his father. But we can’t laugh, as he might be president in 20 years’ time. And he has revanchist genes.

- Tejido: Cloth, material
- Tejado: Roof
- Berlina: This is what the Spanish call a saloon/sedan car. Because this is what a large 4-wheeled carriage was called in the 18th century.

- For new readers: If you’ve landed here looking for info on Galicia or Pontevedra, try here. If you’re passing through Pontevedra on the Camino, you’ll find a guide to the city there.
- For those thinking of moving to Spain:– This is an extremely comprehensive and accurate guide to the challenge, written by a Brit who lives in both the North and the South and who’s very involved in helping Camino walkers. And this is something on the so-called Beckham Rule, which is beneficial – tax-wise – for folk who want to work here. Finally, some advice on getting a mortgage. And this article ‘debunks claims re wealth and residency taxes’. Probably only relevant if you’re a HNWI. In which case, you’ll surely know what that stands for.
well! Well! Vigo as a hidden gem! Who’d have thunk it? An old friend of ours always said Vigo lacks an iconic building. I don’t think the co-cathedral quite fits the bill. They’ll be charging tourists to enter before we know it.
