It’s not yet over for the residents of the Castellón province of the Valencia region, where it’s still raining and residents have been told to stay in the upper floors of their houses and to ensure they can raise the alarm. Difficult, I fear, if the phone services are down.
The odd thing is that, in the last 3 days, my old friend and I have moved southwards through the provinces of Cuenca and Albacete in the adjacent region of Castilla La Mancha and have been told that there was no damage at all there. I guess that’s not surprising when the BBC reports that, in Valencia city’s worst-affected barrio of Paiporta, there are streets near to those which were damaged that weren’t. Further away from the flooding river, I guess.

It has a truly magnificent interior as well.
Yesterday evening. Google maps up threw up 2 hostels called La Parada but I didn’t notice this and went for the first one. Though I did find it odd that a message said it might be closed when we arrived. It turned out to be a non-existent building in the middle of a field of sunflowers on the road between the townships of Moto del Cuervo and Pedro Muñoz, near Albacete. Cue minor panic . . .
Today, Google Maps confused both itself and us as we looked for this arcade in Albacete –

There were few restaurants open in Albacete at lunchtime today. But we struck very lucky. At the one specialising in rice dishes we wanted to eat, we arrived just as it opened at 1.30 and got the only table available. Of course, it was empty until well after 2 but was full to the rafters by 3. The food did not disappoint though Verdejo white wine is inferior to Galicia’s 3 white wines . . .

I strongly disagree with the opinion article. To begin, Israel created the monster. It funded Hamas because Hamas was at odds with the PLO, and thirty, twenty years ago, the PLO was considered THE enemy of Israel. And now, despite having the ability to target precise objectives, it’s simply bombing and decimating civilians indiscriminately, not even caring to know if the remaining hostages are in the area being bombed.
Yes, Israel killed various terrorists, some of them very important. But, every time they kill one, another takes its place. They should also remember that those terrorists are the children and grandchildren that Israel displaced and killed during the creation of the state of Israel. And right now they are creating future terrorists who will not forgive what Israel is doing today.

With 460 links to references on Wikipedia, it’s a complicated study. The war in Ukraine has the potential to destroy peace in Europe in 4 years if there is a ceasefire & Russia rearms…… That’s far more serious.

Your points are all valid, María. But, as I say to others who are critical of Israel – Do you have any idea of how to solve the thrown up by its creation? I certainly don’t.
That’s a rhetorical question, by the way.
Some say Israel never should have been created and that it was a illegal, criminal state from the outset but we are well past that point now, so the comment – right or wrong – is academic.

Yes, there’s no going back to the past. A two state solution would be best, but neither you nor I can do anything about it. All we can do is sit and watch innocents lose everything they have, and eventually, their lives. It’s the frustrating part of being alive.
